CHICKEN OR EGG?

I, too, am disappointed that a slasher movie is a record breaker. Though it may not matter, it isn't clear to me whether movies like this reflect the culture or create the culture. The fact is that Pastor Tom is correct that the message is that life is cheap. I would simply add to what he says that constant warfare and deadly disease and starvation around the world are also part of the culture of life being cheapened.

It is also noteworthy to think about the fear factor. I don't go to these movies, but it is my understanding that people who do are looking for the thrill of the fear. This seems to be a lesson learned by this administration as they are using fear to motivate cooperation with their policies, which include surrendering civil rights.

Blog you later,
Pastor Ian

Wow, how you got from slasher movie talk to fear mongering in the Bush administration is breath taking! You ought to write a column on something!

waiting for the next installment my friend. Tuesday or Wednesday? Is EYW on vaca?

I have noticed you wait a few days, then post for the past few all at once, what are you holding out on us Ian? Thought you would have been all over the Kieth Ellison debacle being allowed in our congress. I will stop now before you write the actual post.

True, I don't always respond the day of a post at EYW. Sometimes, it is because Tom's posts are late in the day, sometimes I'm just too busy, or like last week, I need to catch up from being away for a week.

I am working on my response to the Keith Ellison issue. I am shocked that you refer to it as allowing a debacle. So are free elections now a debacle? What do you have against democracy?

I missed the Keith Ellison debacle. Better go google it...

The death of it by slow incursion of a dangerous and totalitarian system of religion and Sharia law. I am quite sure many Jews helped Hitler to power in the 30's. (no I am not suggesting Congressman Ellison is Hitler, but the radical Islamic culture he is ushering in will be just as dangerous if it succeeds, according to the Koran anyway).

So how much of the Koran have you actually read, let alone studied?

mkz said...

No where as much as the Bible, no argument there. As a Christian There is yet much to read and understand before I enter a more in depth study of another theological system.
Praise God for the wonder of the search engine, which anyone can use. I have on other posts given exact chapters and verses on the violence given as a direction toward infidels, (which unlike in the Old testament are a one time call for inhalation of a people group as God's plan) edicts from Allah to Mohammad for the people of Islam for all time, not just for a specific span.
A good basic site for English translation is;

http://quod.lib.umich.edu/k/koran/

A particularly disturbing site to examine deals with ritual abuse dictated by the Koran;

www.sout-al-haqe.com/kalema_abuse.htm

For more in depth reading on broader subject matter pertaining to the Koran, try Manfred Davidmann's Islam Basis-Past-present-Future at;

www.solhaam.org/indexes/islam.html

I do make use of the knowledge of
those who have read and made study of the Koran if I can not find the subject or answer on my own.
I do not claim to be a scholar of Islam, or of the entire Bible for that matter. But I can read, and I do listen, and do not choose to let warm and fuzzy cloud my faith which comes by hearing the word of God, which to my knowledge has never said call me Allah, that Christ is simply a man or only a prophet, or that Mohammad was God's messenger.
More coming on Sharia Law and the edicts of Imams and the weight they carry in the Islamic world, in future posts. More research yet to do.

That is a mighty bold statement from a person who admittedly knows next to nothing about Islam and concedes he has much yet to learn about his own faith. Forgive me for taking it with a very large grain of salt!

I don't see any such admittion in any post I authored that I know "next to nothing about Islam" you must have misread. And because "there is yet much to read and understand about Christianity before I enter a more in depth study of another theological system", does not make a statement of the obvious bold. Enjoy all the salt you like however, it's free. It will help with the taste of the truth you presently deny. If there is something specific you need help with as far as reference to anything I have posted on either religion, let me know. My shed may not be large, but the tools are sharp and in true order.
You could start with the sites I provided on this thread concerning Islam.

Mike I would send some grace along with the salt, as this debate seems to warrant some.

mkz said...

I would most certainly offer grace along with the salt. But Ian seems to feel I am talking out of my hat, and presumes to feed me words, and asked only for the condiment.

So mkz, your comment about having more to understand about Christianity before studying Islam (is that not what you meant to say?) should lead me to believe that you have actually studied Islam? Sorry, that is not what it sounded like. Also, I would rather hear from someone who hasn't already formed a negative opinion about Islam.

I don't intend to discuss Islam in this forum. Perhaps after I study Islam more myself I'll post my opinions and we can discuss it then.

It is you blog Ian. Later is OK with me.
